She explained in a video conversation with medical researchers posted on Tuesday to her Instagram page that she wants women and folks of color in larger roles.
“We need to have significantly more people in administrative positions of power. We need to have significantly more women and much more Black women, more women, more folks of color, more women of color in these hospitals, as hospital owners and hospital administrators, otherwise there is nothing ever likely to change,” Pompeo said. “It’s exactly the same in Hollywood. So long as you keep the folks of color or the Black women down in the bottom and there’s no chance of executives in power that appear to be you, things won’t change.”
Pompeo, who notes in her Instagram bio that she’s “Not just a real doctor, but an extremely good fake one,” was joined in a virtual sit-down by Dr. Nisha Mehta and nurses Monique Doughty and Sheena Williams, who discussed their experiences employed in hospitals and the challenges they’ve faced within their careers.
Later, Mehta noted that she had received more support from her male colleagues than females when she had a need to pump breast milk on her behalf baby or elsewhere put her family first. Mehta recalled a few of the women she caused feeling that, given that they could actually manage, she should, too.
Pompeo said she have been on both sides of this scenario.
“I’d say, I i did so 100-hour weeks,” Pompeo said. “You understand, whenever we first started the show, no one’s ever worked as hard when i worked in the initial four years of the show. Everyone else burnt out, and I’m still standing, so easily achieved it, everybody can perform it, which isn’t what you ought to be thinking.”
And yet, she continued, “I certainly have observed too little compassion from other women, too.”
The women agreed that the target is to ensure it is easier for another generation of women, so that they won’t own it so difficult.
