REVIEW - CANON IXUS 230 HS

To ensure the survival of the species, one of the evolutionary beliefs is for the animal to look presentable. From the bright plumage on fowls to the intricate patterns on moths, these warrant attention. The idea is implemented on the Canon IXUS 230 HS that is slim and sexy... but does it work as well as it looks?

For something this svelte, it's a welcome surprise that this device is equipped with the 8x optical zoom, which allows close-ups without compromising on resolution. That’s like having Kate Moss who is a world champion eater.

We also love that, at a moment’s notice, you can whip out the IXUS 230 HS and snap away; nothing is lost, regardless of lighting conditions. Thanks to the device’s DIGIC 4 processor and the High Sensitivity (HS) system CMOS sensor, which allows perfect image quality even in low light.

The camera lets you shoot in 1080p Full HD video at 24 fps with stereo sound but the movie-taking is limited to 10 minutes. The autofocus was also a tad lacking for our taste; it’s fast but not fast enough. It's a niggling con but for something that looks this good, it's like a wine stain on a cocktail dress.

Priced at $399, the Canon IXUS 230 HS is available at all Canon authorised retailers.
