Sometimes the best way to subvert the system isn't a raised fist but rather, spray paint and canvas. Singapore's own urban artist, ANTZ, is part of that charge. Running with the design collective RSCLS, ANTZ has worked with international events and projects like NIKE, Adidas and Tiger Beer. In the beginning was the word and the word was Shoe. Or at least so goes the genesis of graffiti doyen Niels Shoe Meulman, who tagged all over Amsterdam in the early ’80s. With a knack and love for lettering, Meulman apprenticed under the Dutch graphic design master, Anthon Beeke and later formed his own agency, Caulfield & Tensing and Unruly. For the past few days, people did a double take when they saw the exterior of the yet-to-be-open Hermès store at Scotts Square. But put those canes away, Mr. Government; the fashion house gave French graff artist, Kongo, the go-ahead to add that fresh coat of urban painting.
