LOOKSEE LOOKSEE: A READING ROOM YOU'LL ADORE

The Lo & Behold Group, a team fiercely dedicated to hospitality and F&B, recently relocated and now occupy several shophouses along Beach Road.

Open, airy and bright, their new office flaunts impressive contemporary design. The company's Managing Partner, Wee Teng Wen, believes the open floor plan "provides a conducive environment for the conceptualisation of ideas and creative solutions", while the inclusion of lush greenery "gives off a sense of calm and serenity".

By the looks of it, we reckon this workspace fulfills just about every criteria of a creative's dream office.

nd quite frankly, we think this delightful workspace is every creative's dream office. - See more at: http://www.catalogmagazine.com/123-3492?preview=true#sthash.MFV3aVVv.dpuf

But all that doesn't even compare to what you'll find at the lobby: a chic reading room cum tea salon ready for guests to invade.

Called Looksee Looksee, the place is opened to the public as an extension of the group’s hospitality values, and contains a selection of reading materials that serve to inspire visitors and budding entrepreneurs. The company also collaborated with A.muse Projects, whose handcrafted tea blends are provided to guests on a gratuity basis.

We recently had a chance to speak with Teng Wen himself, who took us through the process of working towards this incredible milestone.

Hi Teng Wen! First off, we’re curious to know why the reading room was named Looksee Looksee.

“Looksee Looksee” is a play on a colloquial phrase “looksee looksee/ look look see see”, which really tied in with how the concept is a tribute to the local creative industry. The name also takes on a dual meaning, and on a more literal level it may suggest the act of browsing that aligns with our reading room, but on a deeper note it gives guests a glimpse into who we are and what we do as The Lo & Behold Group.

We really love Looksee Looksee's aesthetic! Tell us more about the concept behind its design.

Since we were aspiring to inspire guests with a collection of titles from local thought leaders, we wanted to incorporate a ‘school’ theme with elements like the grid line wallpaper, the swivel tables, fixed banquette seats and a relaxing pastel palette.

The place is filled with furnishings containing clean lines softened by gentle curves, and you’ll also be able to spot a lot of warm natural materials like leather and cane weave here. The magnificent four-arch entrance, cast in concrete and studded with pebbles, acts as an exuberant gesture to welcome both office visitors and guests of Looksee Looksee.

Why did you you chose to incorporate a tea salon and what was it like partnering with A.muse Projects?
Tea is often ignored or underrated, especially with such a booming coffee culture in today’s local F&B scene. And when we met with A.muse Projects, we were completely blown away by the level of dedication and understanding they had of the beverage. We really wanted to give them a platform to showcase their amazing work.

Of all the A.muse Projects blends you’ve tried, which do you like best and why?
I love the Pina Colada tea! A.muse’s blends are really intriguing, because some of them use traditional tea flavours to mirror taste profiles of non-tea drinks. For this particular beverage, they blended different teas to reflect a well-loved cocktail.

Were there any other contributors involved in the Looksee Looksee project?
As mentioned earlier, we’ve worked with thought leaders in the creative industry to curate the range of titles offered in the reading room. In fact, those reads previously inspired their careers. We also tied up with other F&B brands that we greatly admire, like Park Bench Deli, LongPlay and Birds of Paradise, to provide refreshments and programming for our launch party. It turned out to be a fantastic night and our guests had very positive feedback to share.

Have you noticed how often your staff head down and make use of Looksee Looksee’s facilities?
We frequently receive guests who come to our office for meetings at Looksee Looksee, and our staff members love heading downstairs to enjoy a cup of tea.

Lastly, how do you feel the public can benefit by utilising the Looksee Looksee space?
This place is a pretty perfect spot to retreat to, and guests have free access to titles that have the ability to transform their creative thinking. What's more, they're able to do all this while enjoying fantastic tea!

For those contemplating a visit, Looksee Looksee is located at 267 Beach Rd, Singapore 199545.
